Making an Account

There are three different ways to access YPoll:
1) creating an account with BYU
2) creating a personal account
3) using a guest account

Account Options

Log in with BYU

If you are a BYU student, faculty, or staff, you can sign into YPoll using your BYU netid and password (CAS login), even if you've never interacted with YPoll before. Before logging in, be sure you have DUO setup on a second device. DUO is BYU’s two-factor authentication service. Find out more about DUO by clicking here.

  1. Click on ‘Log in with BYU’ and use your BYU netid and password to sign in.
  2. You may be asked to verify your identity with a DUO push, BYU’s two-factor authentication service. Using your preferred method, e.g., push notification sent to your phone, go ahead and approve the request.
  3. Once you are signed in, your account is automatically created. Welcome to YPoll!
  4. Continue signing in with your BYU account. Choose ‘Remember this device’ to help speed up the process of signing in.

Log in with YPoll Account*

If you are not a BYU student, faculty, or staff, you can create an YPoll account using a personal email address, such as Gmail. If you are creating a new account, click on “Don’t have an account?” at the bottom of the login box. Otherwise, you can simply click on “Log in with YPoll Account” and sign in.

  1. When you are creating a new account, click on “Don’t have an account?” at the bottom of the login box. Otherwise, you can simply click on “Log in with YPoll Account” and sign in.
  2. Enter a good username, your full name, and an email address.
  3. Log into your email address and click on the email sent by YPoll to confirm your email address.
  4. Create a password for your account.
  5. Once you create a password, the account will be created and you can sign into this account by clicking “Log in with YPoll Account” in the future. Welcome to YPoll!

If you forget your password, click on “Don’t have an account?” and follow the same steps. An email will be sent to the email used to create the account and you can then enter a new password.

*This feature has been temporarily removed. Users that already have an account can still sign in but users that don't have an account will not be able to create one. Sign in with your BYU account or use the guest sign in feature.

Continue as a Guest

If you want to join a session quickly and don’t have an account, you can use a guest account. Just click on the “Continue as a Guest” and a temporary account will be created, from which you can start a poll or join a polling session.

The Differences Between Accounts

There are no major differences between any of the accounts; all accounts have access to the main features of YPoll, including joining a polling session and creating a poll/question deck. If a student, faculty, or staff signs in with BYU, their information, especially their netid, is used to create the account, allowing faculty to easily recognize students in their class. A guest account has the most restrictions. All data, including past polls and question decks, will be deleted after some time. Guest accounts may also be restricted from joining a polling session and guest accounts cannot share decks with other users, (though they can still have users join their polling sessions).
