YPoll Features

Here is a quick list of YPoll features available to all users.

Question Decks

YPoll allows users to create and manage sets of questions called "Question Decks." These decks serve as a repository for questions that can be reused in multiple Polling Sessions. Users can easily organize and categorize their questions within decks, making it convenient to select the appropriate questions for different sessions.

Multiple Question Types

YPoll supports various question types to accommodate diverse learning scenarios. Users can create multiple-choice questions, text answer questions, and numerical answer questions. This flexibility enables educators to design interactive quizzes and polls tailored to their specific teaching objectives. Additional Question Types may be released as development continues.

Polling Sessions

Polling Sessions in YPoll are interactive sessions where users can conduct live polls and quizzes with different audiences. Users can select question decks, configure its settings, and launch engaging sessions with real-time response tracking. Participants are able to join by either entering in a Session Join Code provided by the host. Polling Sessions encourage active participation, stimulate discussions, and provide immediate feedback to participants.

LTI Integration

YPoll seamlessly integrates with Learning Tools Interoperability (LTI), making it an ideal choice for classroom use. The LTI integration allows YPoll to integrate with Learning Management Systems (LMS) used by educational institutions. When a QuestionDeck is configured to use LTI, YPoll will only allow users being redirected from the specified LMS to join any Polling Session ensuring only the correct students are able to participate. This integration enables easy access to YPoll from within the LMS, simplifies user authentication, and facilitates seamless data exchange between YPoll and the LMS.

Impromptu Questions

In addition to predefined question decks, YPoll provides the flexibility to create impromptu questions during a Polling Session. This feature allows educators to adapt their sessions on the fly, address specific topics or student queries, and encourage interactive discussions. Impromptu questions provide a customizable experience, ensuring the application caters to various teaching styles and classroom dynamics.

Question Templates

YPoll empowers users to create question templates, which serve as predefined question formats that can be reused across multiple question decks. Question templates simplify the process of creating consistent and standardized questions, saving time and effort for educators. This feature promotes efficiency and maintains a uniform question structure throughout different Polling Sessions.

    Automatic Regrading

YPoll includes an automatic regrading feature that allows educators to update the grading of a Question after it has been used in a Polling Session. This feature is particularly useful in scenarios where the correct answers or grading criteria need to be adjusted based on additional considerations or feedback.

When an educator decides to regrade a question, YPoll recalculates the scores for all participants across all Polling Sessions based on the revised grading criteria. The updated scores and feedback are then made available to the participants, ensuring fairness and accuracy in the evaluation process. By enabling automatic regrading, YPoll simplifies the task of modifying scores and ensures that participants receive the most accurate assessment of their responses.

Polling Session and Question Deck Statistics

YPoll provides comprehensive statistics and analytics for Polling Sessions and Question Decks, empowering educators with valuable insights into participant engagement and question performance.

For Polling Sessions, YPoll generates detailed reports that include metrics such as participant response rates and question-specific performance indicators as well as the ability to breakdown responses by participant. These statistics enable educators to gauge the level of participant engagement, identify areas of improvement, and evaluate the effectiveness of their teaching strategies.

Similarly, YPoll offers statistics for Question Decks, providing educators with a deeper understanding of question performance. The statistics encompass metrics such as average response accuracy, and distribution of responses across different options. By analyzing these statistics, educators can assess the effectiveness of individual questions, identify topics that require further clarification, and refine their future Polling Sessions.

With Polling Session and Question Deck statistics, YPoll equips educators with data-driven insights, enabling them to make informed decisions, enhance teaching methodologies, and deliver more impactful learning experiences.

    Overriding Response Grading

YPoll allows educators to manually override the automatic grading of participant responses for specific questions in a Polling Session. This feature provides flexibility in situations where subjective or qualitative evaluation is required.

When reviewing participant responses, educators can access an interface that displays individual responses along with the automated grading. If an educator determines that a response requires manual intervention or adjustment, they can easily override the grading and assign a custom score or evaluation based on their judgment.

By offering the ability to override response grading, YPoll enables educators to account for nuances, contextual factors, or exceptions that may not be captured by automated grading algorithms. This feature ensures fairness, accuracy, and personalized assessment within Polling Sessions.

    Banning Users

YPoll includes a user banning functionality, empowering educators to maintain a safe and respectful learning environment.

When a user is banned, they are prevented from accessing or joining the Polling Session from which they were banned. The ban can be temporary or permanent, depending on the severity of the violation and the educator's discretion.

The user banning feature in YPoll helps to foster a positive and inclusive learning environment by discouraging disruptive behavior and ensuring that participants adhere to the app's code of conduct. Educators can take proactive measures to address any misconduct and maintain the integrity of their Polling Sessions.

    User Authentication Options

YPoll offers multiple user authentication options, ensuring accessibility and flexibility for all users. Whether you are an educator, student, or guest, YPoll provides different ways to access its features and participate in Polling Sessions.

    1. School Authentication System Account: Users who are part of an educational institution can log in to YPoll using their school authentication system account. This seamless integration allows for easy access and streamlines the login process for students and educators already registered within their institution's authentication system. *Currently, only CES CAS accounts are configured with this feature*
    2. YPoll Specific Account: YPoll also provides the option to create a YPoll-specific account. This allows users to have their own unique login credentials and access YPoll independently of their school authentication system. It is particularly useful for individuals who want to utilize YPoll outside of their educational institution or for those who do not have access to a school authentication system.
    3. Anonymous Temporary Guest Account: YPoll offers the option to participate as an anonymous temporary guest. Users can join Polling Sessions without the need for any account registration or login. This option is ideal for scenarios where participants prefer to remain anonymous or for one-time users who don't require long-term account access.

With these authentication options, YPoll ensures that users have the flexibility to engage with the app using the most convenient method for their specific needs.

    Nickname Usage and Account Visibility

YPoll allows users to use nicknames during Polling Sessions, providing an additional layer of privacy and personalization. Participants can choose a nickname that represents their identity without revealing their real name or personal information.

While nicknames offer a sense of anonymity, YPoll also provides educators with the ability to view the accounts associated with the nicknames used within their Polling Sessions. This feature enables educators to create a protected space where they can identify participants' actual identities if necessary.

By offering the option to view accounts tied to nicknames, YPoll promotes a safe and secure learning environment. Educators can monitor participant engagement, identify specific individuals if required, and ensure that the Polling Sessions are conducted in a manner consistent with the established guidelines and policies.

YPoll strikes a balance between privacy and accountability, allowing users to express themselves through nicknames while enabling educators to maintain a protected and respectful space for learning.

    Viewing Live Responses

YPoll allows poll hosts to view responses to questions in real time. A bar chart is automatically generated for multiple choice questions and a list of text/numerical responses displays for the other respective question types. This feature allows users to get real time data and insights into each question and be able to facilitate discussions about questions and answers within a polling session.
